BEST BOOK TO PREPARE YOU PSYCHOLOGICALLY FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP:
āWinning the War In Your Mind: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life" by Craig Groeschel.
Johnny Bonilla says this book focuses on your mindset and helps you battle your own negative beliefs.
āSometimesā¦ we can have some doubt. And entrepreneurs can go through the same thing, especially when times get rough or when thereās adversity.ā
He says you start questioning yourself, āāShould I give up? Is this really for me?ā And thatās typically just a mindset. And I think that book really helped me understand that those thoughts are just negative thoughts, and I canāt let them control me.ā

HOW TO START WHEN YOU DONāT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START:
āI didnāt even know where to look. So I would ask other people and they would tell meā¦ you go online and you go to sunbiz.org. And thatās all they would tell me. But then I would go to Sunbiz and Iām like, ok, let me find out. I would do the research. Like, oh, what is this Sunbiz? Oh, ok. So I would start reading. What are these different type of companies? Oh, ok. So I would read about them. So this is what I am. So this is what I need to do. Ok, so this is what I need to pay for. I need to have a company. And then I have to pay for it every year.ā
LOURDES MOLA ā FOUNDER OF LOURDES MOLA SOLUTIONS
WHAT SOME LATINO ENTREPRENEURS MISUNDERSTAND ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN FLORIDA:
āLetās say youāre a Hispanic business. Youāre going to have to work with white males. That is the reality of the ones that are running these big companies. You gotta come prepared to these meetings. You cannot show up 30 minutes late and wing it. That just doesnāt flyā¦ā
Lourdes Mola gave an example from when she worked in Minority Business Development for a very large business in Florida.
āSo letās say we had a company that had the best tables [and] the best chairsā¦ The owner came in. He made a PowerPoint that did not resonate, did not have any of the buzz words [and] was full of errors. You know, even though they had the best product, [the business] wouldnāt hire them because they feel thatā¦ they missed the little things, the details. And you have one chance of making an impression ā and it has to be a great one.ā
MABEL AGUIRRE ā CO-FOUNDER OF CADENA COLLECTIVE
WHAT TO KNOW WHEN STARTING OVER:
āKnow that youāre going to have to change a lot. But itās a matter of what you want to pursue and what you want the rest of your life to look like.ā
DOUG CARRILLO ā CO-FOUNDER OF BITSTOP.CO
WHY YOU NEED TO LIMIT YOURSELF TO A MAXIMUM OF TWO VENTURES:
Doug Carrillo says the lesson he learned from previous failures is that he spread himself too thin. He says he had businesses that he knew couldāve been successful, but they failed because he didnāt give them the attention they deserved.
āGoing after too many ideas has been a really great experience at, how can I be the best at āthisā thing? Or, maybeā¦ if you really, really have some entrepreneurial ADD (attention deficit disorder), maybe two things that could be complementaryā¦ But any more than that, youāre just going to be mediocre. And your impact is not going to be as deep on each one of those.ā
CARLOS GAZITUA ā CEO OF SERGIOāS RESTAURANTS
WHY YOU NEED TO FOCUS ON A NICHE AND SALES:
āLook for the nuggets. Thereās always a gold nugget somewhere that youā¦ can growā¦ and develop... But, again, without sales, youāre dead. You need sales. So thatās the #1 thingā¦ in the restaurant business.ā
VERONICA CERVERA ā CEO OF CERVERA REAL ESTATE
WHY THE PEOPLE YOU HIRE AND HOW YOU RELATE TO THEM ARE SO IMPORTANT TO THE SUCCESS OF YOUR BUSINESS:
āThe people who work for you can either make you grow or destroy you. Some people are exceedingly difficult. Dealing with exceedingly difficult people is part of being successful.ā
NORKIS FERNANDEZ-VALDEZ - CEO, REAL ESTATE BROKER & OWNER OF LA ROSA REALTY
HOW AUTHENTICITY TRANSLATES INTO SUCCESS
āIām a total advocate for a win-win situation for everyone. And I think people can feel that. Your vibe doesnāt lie. Your energy doesnāt lie. And people can see that.ā
JANNESE TORRES-RODRIGUEZ ā FOUNDER & CEO OF THE YO QUIERO DINERO PODCAST & THE DELISH DāLITES FOOD BLOG
WHY WE DONāT HEAR MUCH ABOUT LATINO ENTREPRENEURS AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT:
āUntil we get more diversity in the spaces of, you know, media companiesā¦ weāre not going to see each other. Weāre not going to see ourselves in these spaces. So I think itās really important for us that do have the opportunities to elevate voices to do so. So thatās what I try to do in my podcast. I really try to highlight Latinos and people of color who are doing amazing things like starting businesses and building wealth. Because we have to normalize the idea that it is also possible for us. And the way we do that is by hearing those stories and finding that we are not relegated just to a specific set of jobs or a specific set of dreams and goals. Weāre capable of creating and being whoever we want to be.ā
