Welcome to Generation Si!
"LATINA"
Don't you just love throwing people for a loop? I know I do. A blonde with blue eyes and light skin isn't what people usually expect for a "Latina", especially one from Bolivia.
And when people think of those Spanish-speaking kids who got separated into the "ESL" group (you know, the ones who had to learn English as a second language) in elementary school, they likely didn't have the highest of expectations for them.
Who sets the bar for expectations so low? And why do we let them?
What if I told you one of those kids from one of those ESL groups ended up winning school spelling bees, became a journalist and earned a Master's degree in economics? That kid is me.
"THOSE KIDS"
And there are many more of "those kids" with a similar background, especially here in Florida, who are making all kinds of contributions to our communities - in finance, entrepreneurship and hi-tech.
But you don't really hear about them. You mainly hear about Latinos as great baseball players, entertainers or undocumented immigrants. That's not the full picture. That's a very narrow view of reality.
REDEFINING EXPECTATIONS
Mi gente, why aren't we doing more to rewrite and redefine those expectations for ourselves and other Latinos? But how? How do we get our stories out there?
Also, how do we spread our entrepreneurial spirit and share how we go from a dream to a goal, from a goal to action and from a series of actions to success?
Through my newsletter, I hope to inspire you and give you tips and answers on the "how" and "action plan" to achieve success, from people like you and me. They're Latinos who defied expectations and who know we need to see examples of success and share our stories and strategies.
And even if you don't have a Latino background, but support success for all, or just want to learn more about your Latino friends and neighbors, I warmly invite you to join us. It might just provide the nudge you need to start your own business.
We need to give real advice and provide practical solutions to empower and inspire our community. Because we are Generation Si!
I hope you'll join me on the journey. And please chime in with your thoughts and comments. It's an important conversation. Let's build the buzz about what we're doing in business and where we're going. I look forward to getting to know you and interacting with you in the comments. Vamos juntos!
